Hypotheses/Objectives
Are northern forests storing CO2?
- Direct observations of net ecosystem exchange (NEE) of CO2 over a broad region encompassing inter-annual time scales can be obtained via eddy-covariance flux measurements collected on a very tall tower.
What causes the observed NEE of CO2?
- The mechanisms governing NEE of CO2 can be examined via these observations.
Can we determine CO2 fluxes from profile data, or visa-versa, thus expanding our sources of terrestrial CO2 data?
- Flux-profile relationships for CO2 in the atmospheric boundary layer can be determined observationally.
